ABOUT BRIAN

WHO IS

BRIAN STOKER

My name is Brian Stoker, and I am a native of Burley, ID. Growing up in a small farming community, the value of hard work was instilled in me from an early age. My father owned a milk processing plant, and his work ethic left an indelible mark on me. I have five older brothers, and each one taught me invaluable lessons that have guided me throughout my life. In 2008, I married my wife, Sierra, and we now have four wonderful children - two boys and two girls - who teach me the value of patience and unconditional love every day. My love for trucks and tractors began in childhood, when my twin brother and I would play with them on the floor. I hold the trucking profession in high regard and am grateful for the hard-working truckers who sacrifice time with their families to move this country forward. Having spent nearly 15 years in the industry, I am intimately familiar with the daily challenges and rewards that come with the job.

BRIAN'S STORY

1987-2005

I had the privilege of growing up in a large family with five older brothers, each of whom taught me valuable lessons. My father was also a significant influence on my upbringing as he ran his own milk processing plant called Stoker Milk Wholesale. Growing up with a direct connection to a small family business allowed me to gain hands-on experience and learn the value of hard work from an early age. I had the opportunity to work in various roles, including loading trucks, stacking bags of empty milk jugs, and helping with the clean-up process in the plant after bottling milk. I even had the chance to deliver milk to stores, which sparked my passion for trucking. This upbringing instilled in me a strong work ethic and a love for the transportation industry that has stayed with me to this day.

2012-2013

After hearing glowing reviews about the company culture at Dot Foods from my father-in-law, who worked in the warehouse, I took the plunge and started my first big rig trucking job in my hometown of Burley, ID. It was a significant career move for me to try my hand at over-the-road trucking, but the experience proved to be incredibly beneficial for my personal and professional growth. During my time at Dot Foods, I was able to expand my horizons by traversing over 16 states, delivering food products to various locations. I gained a wealth of knowledge and skills through this opportunity, which allowed me to become a better truck driver and helped me prepare for future opportunities in the industry.

2013-2020

As my small family continued to grow, I made the decision to seek out a local trucking company that would afford me the opportunity to be home every night. I found a role at a company that specialized in daily routes to Idaho Falls, where I hauled double 45' vans to a potato box distributing company. In 2017, I was offered a promotion to become the yard manager, which entailed managing a warehouse and taking charge of all routes that delivered in Burley. Additionally, I was responsible for shuttling trailers to the cardboard plant that Handy's hauled for. This role allowed me to gain valuable experience in logistics and management, which were pivotal in advancing my career in the trucking industry.

2020-2023

In search of personal and professional growth, I decided to take a chance and try something new. Raft River Transport offered me a position as a freight broker, but my start was complicated by the pandemic, making it challenging to get the business off the ground. Eventually, Raft River moved me to become a dispatcher for their fleet, which consisted of 13 in-house trucks and over 15 owner-operators who primarily transported flatbeds. Raft River Transport was mainly responsible for transporting sod from their company to Utah between March and November. My time in this role allowed me to explore a whole new facet of the trucking industry and learn how to secure loads for trucks on a daily basis. I became proficient in using load boards and established direct relationships with new customers. As a manager of almost 30 trucks, I was able to develop my time management, task completion under pressure, and problem-solving skills. Additionally, I discovered some valuable shipping lanes that worked exceptionally well, particularly for my long-haul truckers.
